The Committee, however, was particularly concerned that hundreds of people, including Venezuelan nationals, had been expelled, with two recent expulsions having taken place in February. It stressed that the Convention forbade collective expulsions, and that each case of expulsion must be examined and decided on an individual basis.
The Committee made the following key recommendations to the Government of Chile:
Protect the rights of migrant workers and members of their families, in particular the right to health, and mitigate the adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic;
Develop measures to eliminate xenophobia and discriminatory stereotypes about migrant workers and their families, including through campaigns with measures targeting both public servants and the general public;
New technology helps migrants send money home
Around 164 million people work abroad. Many of them support families and help their homeland by sending billions in remittances. Now new technology is making it easier; using it will help the next generation.

SINGAPORE: More than 1,500 workers living in the same dormitory as a vaccinated migrant worker who was infected with COVID-19 have tested negative for the virus, said Minister for Transport Ong Ye Kung on Wednesday (Apr 14).
In a Facebook post, Mr Ong also said that 156 of the worker s close contacts were quarantined, and all of them have tested negative so far. All of them will be tested again before they are discharged from quarantine.
Amidst the rising number of COVID cases in the national capital, some of the migrant workers have started returning to their native places in fear of imposition of lockdown. Some alone, with backpacks, while some with their families, migrant workers can be seen leaving for their home at ISBT, Anand Vihar and other key transit points in the city. With increasing COVID numbers the fear of imposition of lockdown has been making migrant workers anxious. Gouri Shankar Sharma, who hails from Lucknow, told ANI, The way COVID numbers are rising, there are chances of lockdown. There is no work. So I am leaving.
