President Museveni clinched his sixth term of office after beating 10 other opponents. If he serves the entire term, the victory will see him serve as President for a period of 40 years. Derrick Kiyonga explores how the NRM candidate managed to win.

In 1996, when President Museveni was casting his vote in the presidential race, he sported military attire.
He asked the voters to enable him make that transformation from a military leader into a civilian president.
Mr Museveni won easily by shrugging off competition from Democratic Party’s (DP) Paul Kawanga Semogerere.
President Yoweri Museveni yesterday reshuffled Resident District Commissioners and their deputies across the country with a number of stakeholders raising concern over the timing.
However speaking to KFM, Opondo said the President has a right to do a reshuffle as he pleases.
He further says all this is aimed at improving service delivery and representation adding that it could be response to people’s concerns during the just concluded campaign trail.
Among the changes, the embattled Jinja RDC, Eric Sakwa has been dropped by President Museveni in the new reshuffle of Resident District Commissioners and their deputies two days to the general election.
