“Raising it to that extent makes it more difficult for people who are on minimum wage to get considered.
“If people are earning £50,000 a year, I’m sure they can actually afford to go into private accommodation.”
The council’s director of housing services, Patrick Odling-Smee, said the council needed to ensure there were people on the list who could afford more expensive, but still technically “affordable”, homes in the borough.
He said: “One of the issues we have at the minute is that some of the properties that we are letting are properties that have “affordable rent”, which can be up to 80 per cent of market rent.
APPEAL: Up to 23 homes could still be built in Pickersleigh Grove MORE than 20 homes could still controversially be built in Malvern after an appeal was launched to overturn a council rejection. Malvern Hills District Council rejected a plan by social housing provider Platform to build 23 homes on land off Pickersleigh Grove in Malvern last year and rejected a similar plan for 21 homes when it was submitted again a few months later. Platform has now appealed to the government s planning inspectorate to reverse the decisions and allow the homes to be built. A planning report, which set out the council s rejection in February last year, said allowing the extra homes would affect the town s green heart.

The NHS hopes to build a huge new health centre on the former St George’s Hospital site to reduce pressure on the struggling Queen’s Hospital in Romford.
After St George’s fell out of use in 2012, a developer hoping to build hundreds of homes bought the Hornchurch site in 2018 for £40million.
The NHS now wants to build a 5,000sq m centre on the remainder of the Suttons Lane site so it can relocate services from Queen’s Hospital to create more space.

Milwaukee, WI – February 1, 2021 – Black Arts MKE has been awarded a generous grant from The Black Seed, a national strategic initiative focused on creating impact and “thrivability” for Black theater institutions. Awarding close to 100 one- or two-year grants up to $150,000, this is the first iteration in a long-term strategy for The Black Seed.
