Storms that were once Hurricane Enrique bring rain and cooler temps to Phoenix area Perry Vandell, Arizona Republic A tropical storm that was once Hurricane Enrique will likely bring some showers and relief from the heat to metro Phoenix on Tuesday and Wednesday. Grant LaChat, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Phoenix, told The Arizona Republic that Hurricane Enrique had been downgraded to a tropical storm Monday. LaChat said that storm, combined with high pressure from the West Coast that’s driving extreme heat in the Pacific Northwest, is what s bringing moisture to the Valley. LaChat said the storms will also bring 30-40 mph winds which can easily kick up dust and obscure visibility. He recommended drivers in such situations pull over and turn off their lights so other drivers don’t mistake them for being on the road.
