In Utah You Can Carry a Gun Without a Permit The new law allows Utah residents to carry a firearm without a permit and follows several other states that have enacted similar measures. Last Friday, Utah Governor Spencer Cox signed five bills into law, including HB 60, which makes it legal to concealed carry a firearm in the Beehive State without a permit. The bill, which was sponsored by Rep. Walt Brooks (R-St. George), specifies that those who carry a concealed weapon must be over twenty-one years of age and be legally allowed to possess a firearm. An amendment to the bill also directs leftover money from the state’s “concealed weapons account” to go toward suicide prevention and education about safe firearm storage, KUTV news reported.

Greg Gianforte’s tax policy changes would allocate tax credits to businesses to help pay tuition costs for employee trades education. More than two dozen people testified in support of the measure, many representing labor organizations and touting the bill as critical to drawing younger, high-skilled laborers to Montana. HELENA Two bills promising tax breaks for businesses drew widespread support during a Montana House of Representatives committee hearing Tuesday. House Bill 303 would increase the exemption for the business equipment tax from $100,000 to $200,000. Montana Department of Revenue Director Brendan Beatty said it would allow business owners to reinvest the savings in their communities.

Gianforte Lifts Nearly All COVID Restrictions in Montana As statewide COVID-19 numbers and hospitalizations continue to drop, multiple news outlets (including AP News) are reporting that Montana s newly elected Republican Governor Greg Gianforte has announced he is lifting nearly all COVID-19 restrictions that have been in place since former Democratic Governor Steve Bullock issued them last spring and throughout late 2020. Effective Friday morning (1/15) bars, casinos, restaurants, breweries and other businesses will no longer be required to close at 10 pm. There will no longer be capacity limits at businesses or public gatherings. Instead, Gianforte is encouraging Montanans to take personal responsibility and suggests businesses follow recommendations provided the CDC and industry groups.
