After listening to witnesses and debating in the Wednesday, May 19 Charter Commission special meeting, the commission voted to reaffirm their recommendation that Peggy Rehder serve on the commission.Â
In March City Council Vice President wrote a letter to Chief District Judge Kathryn Messerich in opposition to the appointment of Rehder to the commission. He said in his letter, âduring her past service on the Red Wing City Council, she exhibited unprofessional and erratic behavior that culminated in her resignation from office.â Hove is referring to a 2018 arguement between Rehder and Administrative Business Director Marshall Hallock.
The special meeting was held because Judge David Knutsonâwho was assigned to appoint the next member to the commission by Messerichârequested three things of the commission:Â

Hove wrote a letter to Judge Kathryn Messerich of the First Judicial District on March 29. The letter states in part, âDuring her past service on the Red Wing City Council, she exhibited unprofessional and erratic behavior that culminated in her resignation from office. ⦠I believe her presence on the Red Wing Charter Commission would also be detrimental to the professional, orderly conducting of the business before them.âÂ

The in-person events will kick-off on Saturday, May 22 with Shoreline Dance recitals.Â
Sheldon Theatre Executive Director Jeff Larson told a reporter, âwe canât wait to see an audience inside the Sheldon again, and weâre so thankful to the people of Red Wing and all of Minnesota for staying safe and getting vaccinated at a level that allows us to reopen this soon. With country, rock and bluegrass coming up in June and July, we have the perfect lineup for a long-overdue reminder of how much fun live events are.â

The reopening of the Sheldon not only means the ability to see live performances, it is also an opportunity to give back to the community. Leah Adams, the audience services manager for the Sheldon, told the Republican Eagle that the number of volunteers with the threatre is much lower than previously and that staff is looking for more people willing to volunteer with the nonprofit.Â
The email reads:
âOn Highway 19 in the valley between Vasa and Burnside there is a concrete structure on the west hillside. It was built a couple of years ago, and it was even surrounded by landscaping. I wonder if it has something to do with electricity? It s been bugging me every time I drive that way, and I m curious as to what it is.â
After much help from Samantha Pierret, Goodhue County planner and zoning administrator, Frank Peterson, building official for Red Wing, and Steve Kohn, planning manager for Red Wing, we got the answer.Â
The concrete structure is a turnaround for Xcel Energy trucks so they can access the power poles from a solar garden that is on top of the hill.
