Co-host Meghan McCain responded to Ms. Hostin by launching into an impassioned rant against left-wing racism, noting that the racist slurs, “Uncle Tom” and “Uncle Tim,” became top trending topics for hours on Twitter following the senator’s GOP rebuttal to Mr. Biden’s speech.
“So it’s OK to be racist and use racial slurs towards Black men as long as they are Republicans,” Ms. McCain fumed. “I’m disgusted by the response to him. Hit him on policy if you have policy problems with him, but the way he is being talked about, the way he is being disrespected don’t talk to me about microaggressions with race in this country, don’t talk to me about the problems we have in this country with racism when it’s OK to speak and treat a Black man this way, who happens to be the most famous Republican Black senator in the country.

Scott, who is the only Black Republican in the U.S. Senate, was excoriated on Twitter following his remarks in which he asserted that despite personally experiencing the “pain of discrimination,” America is “not a racist country.”
The junior senator accused Democrats of “making money and gaining power by pretending we haven’t made any progress” and “doubling down on the divisions we’ve worked so hard to heal.”
Sen. Scott quickly became a trending topic as Twitter users, namely Black Twitter, lambasted him for providing racial cover for the Republican Party. While some critiques went as far as to call him an Uncle Tom, others opted for a more personal touch by calling him “Uncle Tim” which trended on Twitter before the social media company removed it for going against its policy.

Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, praised President Biden s tone in his first joint address to Congress on Wednesday, but said she was disappointed in the Republican rebuttal delivered by Sen. Tim Scott, S.C. because she feels like he was used by his party. He was chosen because he is the only Republican Black senator, Hostin charged. And he knows that.
Hostin said she was very disappointed in Scott for using buzz words like socialism and for saying you shouldn t teach white children about racism because it makes them feel like oppressors. That, Hostin, said, is the Republican ideology right now. Like her co-host Joy Behar, Hostin added that she was disappointed that Scott said America is not a racist country without also talking about the systemic racism that is also plaguing our country.

Meghan McCain told her co-hosts on Thursday’s broadcast of ABC’s “The View” that she is “disgusted” the phrase “Uncle Tim” trended on Twitter after Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) gave his rebuttal to President Joe Biden’s address to Congress.
McCain said, “In terms of senator Tim Scott, I’m a huge fan of his. He told a story about growing up in poverty and having to move in with his grandmother and having three family members live in one room, and his uncle pretending to read a newspaper to show a good example. He explained policy reasons why he’s a Republican. In response, he was trending on Twitter, being called Uncle Tom and Uncle Tim, which many Americans consider a racial slur. It’s okay to be racist and use racial slurs towards black men as long as they are Republicans.”
