Increased Funding For Pedestrian Safety, Police Oversight Board In Latest City Budget Draft

Jason Whitman / WVXU Projects initially left out of the Cincinnati budget are back on the table after negotiations in the Budget and Finance Committee Monday. City administrators say they identified about $1.2 million in the operating budget, and $1 million in the capital budget, that could still be allocated. Author: Lacey Crisp Updated: 10:14 PM EDT May 5, 2021 COLUMBUS, Ohio Shortly after protests erupted in Columbus following the death of George Floyd, Mayor Andrew Ginther announced his proposal for a civilian review board of the Columbus Division of Police.  Ginther argued many cities across the country already have an oversight body, and it would help give transparency to the citizens they demand over police.  The 11-member group is still working out many of the details about the types of cases it will take on when it comes to police, hiring an inspector general and more.

Opinion: As mayor, I will end corruption, put Cincinnatians first

Opinion: As mayor, I will end corruption, put Cincinnatians first Gavi Begtrup Cincinnati stands at a crossroads. We can return to the days of corrupt and broken government, or we can once again become the shining city of seven hills. Our Queen City once led the country in culture, architecture, public transportation and even police reform. Today, Cincinnati is becoming too expensive for everyday residents. Rents and property values were already outpacing wages when the pandemic hit. Cincinnati’s families and small businesses have suffered while corruption at City Hall kept us from focusing on the real issues of systemic inequality brought about by centuries of racist policies.
