PHOENIX A man is in custody after he allegedly admitted to robbing six Arizona banks over the past month, telling police he was trying to pay off a debt owed to a Mexican cartel.
Jeffrey Patterson, 45, is facing charges stemming from robberies at six Arizona banks as well as two Nevada banks, according to the FBI.
No one was physically injured during the bank robberies.

PHOENIX â A stretch of Loop 101 will close in the north Valley this weekend, February 26 - March 1, for a widening project, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Other freeways have scheduled closures or restrictions as well.
Westbound Loop 101 (Pima Freeway) closed between State Route 51 (Piestewa Freeway) and Seventh Street from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday (March 1) for widening project (pavement diamond grinding). Northbound SR 51 ramp to westbound Loop 101 closed. Westbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Cave Creek Road closed.

Northeast Valley
Loop 101 westbound is closed between SR 51 and 7th Street for a widening project from Friday 10 p.m. until Monday 5 a.m. SR 51 northbound ramp to Loop 101 westbound is closed. Loop 101 westbound on-ramps at 56th Street and Cave Creek Road are also closed. Loop 101 westbound traffic can detour on SR 51 southbound to westbound Union Hills Drive and use northbound 7th Street to access Loop 101 westbound. SR 51 northbound drivers can consider exiting to northbound Black Mountain Boulevard and using westbound Deer Valley Drive to southbound 7th Street.
