Irwin Mitchell is the latest firm to permit its staff to decide where, when and how they work, once the lockdown has lifted.
The PI firm s Flexible by Choice scheme will allow its 3,000 staff to decide whether to work remotely full-time, or in the office, or opt for a hybrid, subject to their role and client work being completed effectively . All staff already have laptops and are equipped for flexible working options which have worked well throughout the pandemic, said the firm.

Thursday 29 April 2021 8:25 am Keystone Law CEO: There s always been a culture of presenteeism in law firms - but that makes less sense now
CEO James Knight.
AIM-listed Keystone Law has enjoyed a good financial year, with profits and revenue at the firm up, something it attributes to being accidentally pandemic-ready thanks to its flexible approach to work.
Revenue for the year jumped nearly 11 per cent to £55m, while profit before tax rose to £5.4m, some £200,000 more than the previous financial year.
The network-style business operates a self-employed model, and as a result its lawyers tend to choose home working over coming into the office, meaning the firm was already set up for remote working when the pandemic hit.
National firm reaches 50 partner-level lawyers
By Jerome Doraisamy|28 April 2021
A national mid-tier practice that pays out 70 per cent of a lawyer’s collected billings now boasts 50 partnership equivalent across Australia, after just seven years of operation in the country.
Keypoint Law – which provides services across 23 areas of law in its Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra offices – has reached a milestone of 50 senior lawyers on its books. The firm’s growth in Australia mirrors that of its UK-based sister firm, Keystone Law, which currently has over 350 senior lawyers after 20 years of operations.
The firm, whose size had climbed to 45 partner-level lawyers this time last year, has had a busy start to 2021, adding consulting principals in the areas of wills and estates, commercial and property, privacy, family law and government.

Two former executives at security company Serco were acquitted Monday of defrauding the U.K.’s Ministry of Justice after the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) failed to disclose documents to the defense.
The agency offered no evidence against Nicholas Woods, a former finance director, and Simon Marshall, a former operations director, who were charged with defrauding the government department between 2011 and 2013 by concealing £12 million (U.S. $16.6 million) in profits related to an electronic tagging contract for offenders.
Because the SFO did not disclose documents to defense lawyers, Mrs. Justice Tipples directed the jury to return verdicts of not guilty after refusing an adjournment that would have allowed the agency to pursue a retrial.
