The Gainesville Sun Manage your sprinkler  If you are one of the landowners who has the sprinklers on all afternoon, or water spraying over pavements, you need to fix the problem right now.   There is a threshold for how much water can be infiltrated by soil during a specific time period. It usually takes about 30 minutes to reach that threshold. Once the limit is exceeded, the excess water eventually becomes surface runoff and goes down storm sewers. You are wasting extra money, while your lawn is not growing better.  What makes it worse, you might be contributing to the pollution of our water system. As water flows through impervious surfaces, trash and pollutants will be brought down the sewers at the same time.
