Fruitvale now a Living Wage Employer: challenges other municipalities

The Village of Fruitvale is now a Living Wage Employer. “This just made sense. We made a commitment to providing a good quality of life for our employees and contractors, and to being a leader in bringing awareness of poverty issues in the area and finding solutions,” says Mayor Steve Morissette. “I’m really excited that Fruitvale is leading the charge for municipalities locally. Hopefully it will encourage others, and in fact, I’m putting out that challenge right now for other local governments to become Living Wage Employer certified,” he says.

KBRFR’s Trail Station will host wildland fire suppression supervisory training for 39 firefighters from across the West Kootenay and Boundary this week, in cooperation with the Office of the Fire Commissioner, BC Wildfire Service and instructors from the cities of Penticton and West Kelowna.
