It remains unclear what will happen to the 100 people whose livelihoods depend on this ship being able to sail – what is clear, however, is that fish and chip shops will be reliant on imported cod when serving Britain’s national dish. Fishermen accuse Government of Brexit betrayal as Norway deal falls through Harry Yorke © Jason Alden /Bloomberg Fishermen Fishermen in the North East have accused the Government of abandoning them after it announced on Thursday it had failed to reach a deal with Norway on access to thousands of tonnes of cod. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said it had put forward a “fair offer” on access to UK waters and the exchange of fishing quotas but had been unable to reach an agreement for 2021.  Due to Brexit, the UK now has the ability to sign its own bilateral agreements with Norway, having previously been part of EU-wide deals.
