For four years, two women from Nepal have brought their culture, determination, intellects, and smiles to Keene State. Their shared intention: to get the skills to make a difference in the world. Sponsored by a partnership between Keene State and the Little Sisters Fund, which helps Nepalese girls have access to education, Benajil Rai and Puja Thapa have succeeded in attaining their dreams of a college education.

Dancers rehearse for Evening of Dance
When Richard Ouellette came to Keene State in 2008 from northern New Hampshire, he wanted to study the backstage arts of technical theater design. He soon fell in love with modern dance and added dance performance to his resume. After graduation in 2012, he worked in Boston as a dancer and scenic designer, then went on to graduate school at the University of Maryland, earning an MFA in Scenic Design.
Then it was off to New York City, where his training as a dancer served him well in his work as a scenic designer for dance concerts, operas, and other performances. “It helps to have been a dancer, to know how bodies move in space,” he says. “When I am creating the architecture for a dance, I draw the body first, then imagine the world around it.”

Spartan softball coach Eric Ramey knew the home stretch of his team’s schedule would be a challenge. The final six games going into last weekend all feature Little East Conference opponents, and wins are necessary for the Spartans to advance into the six-team LEC tournament later this month.
“It’s not an easy road for us to drive right now,” Ramey said last Thursday.
Then the Spartans upset #3 ranked Eastern Connecticut State in Windham, Connecticut Friday afternoon, splitting the day’s doubleheader with a dramatic last inning out at third base spurred by a desperate sacrifice bunt by the Warriors.
