It’s finally happened, Donald Trump is out of the White House and there is a new president of the United States. Joe Biden’s inauguration took place yesterday, and aside from giving everyone a sense of relief, the inauguration also produced some quality memes.
The inauguration memes began before Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were even sworn in, thanks to Bernie Sanders and his giant coat. Then of course performances by Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez ensured the Twitter reactions would keep rolling in.
The evening ended with a concert that included Tom Hanks, John Legend and Katy Perry singing Firework, so of course there were memes.
Earlier today (January 20), Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States. Soon after, ‘Leslie Knope’ started to trend on social media as fans remembered the time Biden met Knope, played by Amy Poehler, who was a Biden super-fan in the show.
Parks And Recreation ran for seven seasons on NBC between 2009 and 2015.

The two first met in a 2012 episode when Biden made a cameo. Knope’s line from their meeting, “This isn’t real, this isn’t happening,” started to trend on social media this afternoon, as did clips from the time Biden made a second cameo on the show in 2015, with his wife and now-first lady, Dr Jill Biden.

Today really was truly a spectacular day, with Donald Trump leaving the White House to return back to Florida, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris being sworn in as President and Vice-President of the US, respectively. And the event, despite Trump being petty and deciding to not attend his successor’s inauguration, was a still a star-studded and meme-ripe affair.

Sure, thinking of fictional characters isn’t the
best thing to do when it comes to serious political developments, but when it comes to Leslie, she loves Joe Biden so much that it just makes sense that we’re all thinking back to the NBC comedy. Leslie Knope made it clear that if she had a chance, she’d leave Ben Wyatt behind for Joe Biden.
