CORNWALL, Ontario – Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, Medical Officer of Health for the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) shared some positive news in his bi-weekly media conference call on Monday, April 26.
The EOHU is starting to see the curve of new COVID-19 cases trending downwards after peaking at around Easter.
The region currently sits at a seven-day rolling average of 85.1 new COVID-19 cases, down from a peak of 154.1 on the week of April 15.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit disclosed 32 additional COVID-19 cases, and two new fatalities Friday afternoon, as the number of active cases in the region took a tumble.
Of the new cases, seven are in Cornwall, one in South Glengarry, two in South Stormont, one in North Stormont, two in North Dundas, four in Russell, four in Casselman, one in The Nation, two in Champlain, one in Alfred & Plantagenet, and six in Clarence-Rockland. The running total of COVID-19 cases within the EOHU is now at 4,256.

A tanker truck caught fire at an Ontario Provincial Police check point near the Quebec border Wednesday night, closing a stretch of Highway 417 for more than eight hours.
Hawkesbury OPP officers were conducting border checks at about 9 p.m. when the tractor trailer carrying fuel from Quebec arrived at a check point, had a tire blow out and then caught fire.

No fuel was spilled and the East Hawkesbury fire department quickly doused the flames, police said. No one was injured.

Of the new cases, 18 are in Cornwall, two in South Glengarry, two in North Glengarry, four in South Stormont, two in North Dundas, one in Russell, two in Casselman, one in The Nation, five in Champlain, five in Alfred & Plantagenet, and 18 in Clarence-Rockland. The health unit also removed two cases from the running total in Hawkesbury. The running total of COVID-19 cases within the health unit now sits at 4,190.
