East Lyme A large number of quarantined individuals from East Lyme High School underscores the need for eligible students to get vaccinated so they don t miss important milestones like prom and graduation, according to Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey Newton. Newton said Tuesday afternoon there were 52 people from the high school in quarantine because they were identified as close contacts of a student who recently tested positive for COVID-19. That s why we re encouraging all children 16 and above to get vaccinated, Newton said. Because if they re not vaccinated and they end up having to quarantine during that time period, they could miss prom or miss graduation.

Old Saybrook  The road to normalcy for some area teens took them through Old Saybrook on Thursday, where they got their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine at a drive-thru clinic. The event, targeted at 16-, 17- and 18-year-old students, drew people from all along the shoreline and Connecticut River. Among those who pulled up to the vaccination site was East Lyme High School senior Kevin Mills. The 18-year-old said his goal in getting the shot was to help end the COVID-19 pandemic so life could return to normal. For Kevin, that means being able to walk around with no mask on, being able to do stuff without having any specific requirements to follow.
