Temporary traffic lights are causing more delays in Taunton town centre
Commuters across Taunton may have believed that today s route may have been quickened with the reopening of East Street.
However, this appeared not to be the case for many.
Roadworks around the former Quantock House site have intensified from today (Monday, May 24) and left parts of Taunton severely queued up, again.
It comes as a three-way controlled temporary traffic light system has been installed around the Mary Street, Paul Street and Billetfield junction.

A barber was taken to hospital after a knife attack outside their shop in Taunton.
On Friday, April 23 at approximately 1.10pm Avon and Somerset Police were called to a barbers in the East Reach area.
A man had reportedly made racially aggravated comments against staff inside the premise and demanded money from the till.
He was ejected from the premises without taking any money and drove off in a silver Vauxhall Zafira.
However, he shortly returned with a knife and injured an employee outside the shop, who was taken to hospital for treatment and released later that day.
TAUNTON’S roads are the responsibility of the Highways Authority – Somerset County Council. One of their key jobs is to ensure that necessary roadworks are planned and managed to cause minimum disruption. The current gridlock is caused solely because Somerset Highways have failed to do their job, allowing multiple works across the town and on key access roads at the same time, tipping congestion into gridlock. I agree that opening East Street, at least temporarily, could ease the problems in one part of the town. The county council, as Highways Authority, could have taken this action already, had they wished.

A temporary closure of a busy street in Taunton is to be pulled - after it caused gridlock in the town centre.
The move follows the news that nine weeks of temporary traffic lights and road works are expected around the A38 Mary Street, Billetfield and Paul Street junctions near the former Quantock House site.
