Thomas J. Condon, 80
Thomas Joseph Condon, former president of Urban Engineering, passed away at home surrounded by family and friends. He was 80.
Mr. Condon, a graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, received his undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo and his law degree from the Detroit College of Law.
Mr. Condon worked at Urban Engineering in Allen Park, beginning as a crew boss, then studying to become a registered land surveyor and, ultimately, becoming president of the company.
Mr. Condon was the only registered land surveyor and attorney in the state of Michigan in the late 1970s. He loved spending his time outdoors and continued to survey local sites and landmarks until his recent retirement.

East Grand Rapids, Kentwood – While the country watched as Trump supporters staged an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, local teams of high school students looked at the situation as scholars of the U.S. Constitution.
They considered how hyperbole and propaganda had fueled the situation, along with partisan divides. They thought about constitutionally protected rights like freedom of expression and situations when national security takes precedence over certain forms of expression.

Rep. Peter Meijer, the new GOP congressman from West Michigan s 3rd Congressional District, grew up watching The Daily Show when comedian Jon Stewart would roast lawmakers for their hypocrisy by contrasting their past comments with videos of their new change of heart.
Meijer was turned off by how politicians principles could be so squishy that they could condemn a president for doing something, but four years later praise a new president for doing the same thing just because their party is in charge. The segments made an impression on Meijer, who decided he d never act that way.
