he first Covid-19 outbreak in the United States stopped Seattle in its tracks. Toilet paper, hand sanitizer and masks vanished from store shelves.
Streets eerily empty. Spouses separated by panes of glass. Businesses boarded up â a canvas for the cityâs muralists to offer some degree of hope. It was a surreal new reality with no end in sight.
And then came May.
Following the murder of George Floyd at the end of the month, thousands poured into Seattleâs streets to continue a fight thatâs hundreds of years old. Demanding justice for Black Americans and an end to police brutality, protesters were met with tear gas and flash bang grenades on Capitol Hill. For months, every single day, throughout the region â people marched.
One person was displaced after a house fire in the 1200 block of East Pine Street around 7 p.m. Monday.
Four Springfield Fire Department engines and two SFD trucks responded to the blaze. Crews reported upon arrival that fire and heavy smoke were showing from the front of the one-story house and from an exposure.
Crews went into an offensive mode, and the fire was under control after interior personnel gained an upper hand.
There were no injuries on the scene.
One person is being assisted by the American Red Cross, according to Fire Chief Brandon Blough.
The fire is being investigated.

SEMINARY, Miss. (WDAM) - A boil water notice that was issued Saturday night for the town of Seminary has been lifted.
City officials had issued that notice for all of East Pine Street east of Mississippi Highway 535 due to a leak in a water line.
The boil water notice affected about a dozen homes in the area.

GENESEO, Ill. (AP) Authorities say a woman was found dead in a burning house in Geneseo on Christmas. The Geneseo Police Department say that firefighters and officers with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the home in the 400 block of East Pine Street in Geneseo around 11:30 p.m. Officers found the woman on the floor near the rear door. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released. The house and two attached residences were damaged. The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating.

SEMINARY, Miss. (WDAM) - A boil water notice has been issued for parts of the town of Seminary.
According to Seminary Mayor Rick Hux, the boil water notice will affect all of East Pine Street, east of State Route 535.
A leak in a water line was the cause for the notice and it has since been repaired.
Hux says the boil water notice will affect about a dozen homes in the area.
