Over the past week, Penn State’s total positivity rate for the semester (or since December 19) remained steady at 2.8%. About 2.6% of tests administered this week returned positive results. Forty-six students are currently isolating at Penn State’s Eastview Terrace complex, while 18 are quarantined there. The university is using about 16% of its 400-room capacity. Last week, 17% of rooms were in use. Penn State has administered 94,856 COVID-19 tests to University Park students and employees this semester, resulting in 2,659 positives. The university’s COVID-19 Dashboard also incorporates figures from student-athlete testing and any tests taken by those who remained on campus over winter break.

The Jared Box Project was started locally in 2001 in memory and honor of Jared McMullen, a 5-year-old boy who was diagnosed with an incurable brainstem tumor in 1999. “Jared always took a backpack filled with toys [to the hospital],” Jared Box Project Executive Director Cindy Kolarik said. “Jared actually noticed other kids that looked bored or sad or lonely, and he shared his toys with them. That always stuck in the back of my mind. Even though he was going through all that, he was able to look around and care for others.”
