I am both African American and Jewish, both Israeli and American, and I served in both the Israel Defense Forces and the United States Army. My American-Israeli culture is a multicultural and multi-spiritual “Third Culture” that combines elements of Israeli identity and American identity.

I am African American, Jewish, Israeli, and American, and I served in both the Israel Defense Forces and the United States Army. My culture is a rich “Third Culture” which is a combination of both American culture and Israeli culture.
The final inspection process began last week, with state surveyors providing the operator with a short "punchlist" of minor issues, all of which have since been addressed, according to a spokesman.

This essay is the first of a series of articles about my experiences as a black, Jewish, American, Israeli. This will be an exclusive “memoir” published on the “Times of Israel”.
I was born and raised in East Long Beach, California which is considered an inner-city ghetto or “hood”. While I was a law student, I converted to both Reform and Orthodox Judaism. I then moved to Israel for nearly six years where I served in the Israel Defense Forces. After 9/11, I served in the United States Army.
I have struggled to combine my African American traditions with my Jewish traditions. For guidance, I read Rebecca Walker’s “Black, White, & Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self”. In addition, I met with Ethiopian Jews to talk about their traditions, culture, and history. I wanted to understand the “black-Jewish” experience.

The closure will last until Jan. 14 and is a result of spiking COVID-19 cases, although Pulver said the decision was voluntary.
“While the number of COVID-19 cases among students and staff at LAHS is still well below the 5% threshold set by the (California Department of Public Health) for closing a campus to in-person instruction, we have seen a substantial increase in the number of people who must enter quarantine because of close contact with affected individuals,” Pulver said in the letter.
The district’s elementary and middle schools will remain open on the current online/in-person hybrid schedule.
