B.C. health authorities are ramping up vaccine clinics with extended hours and more staff to quickly deliver the more than one million doses of COVID-19 vaccines expected to arrive this month.
After months of unreliable vaccine supply from Ottawa, B.C. received 276,000 doses of Pfizer this week with the same amount expected every week this month for a total of 1.1 million doses in May. Hundreds of thousands of doses of Moderna vaccine are also expected this month, said Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Wildcats 1-3 in last week
The Cassville baseball team (7-15) picked up one win Saturday but dropped three other contests since April 27. The Wildcats fell to Lamar 8-2, then dropped a road game at Monett on Thursday, 15-2. In the Monett game, lead-off hitter Corey Thomas tripled on the first at-bat of the game, and he was batted in by an Isaac Hadlow single. However, a 6-run second inning from Monett put the game out of reach. On Saturday, the Wildcats ended a five-game skid with a win over Central (Springfield), 10-4. Cassville then lost to Fair Grove, 20-6. The Big 8 Crossover Game is set for Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Lady Eagles keep on winning
The Purdy softball team (22-1) added five more wins to its resume in the last week, besting Exeter, Lamar, Lincoln, Sweet Springs and Spokane, outscoring the quartet of opponents 58-1. In an 18-0 win over Exeter on April 21, Robyn Schad and Lauren Schallert led in hits with 3 each. Schallert and Jessi Hoppes tallied 3 RBI each. Schallert also pitched all five innings, striking out 10. She followed up that performance with a no-hitter against Lamar on Friday and a 2-0 win. Schad has 2 hits, and she and Annabelle Bowman each knocked a RBI. Schallert went all seven innings and retired 14 batters. A doubleheader Saturday saw the Lady Eagles top Lincoln, 2-0, and Sweet Springs, 20-1. against Lincoln, Schallert managed 2 hits and Dally Craig added a RBI. Schallert again went all seven innings, striking out 9. Hoppes led the charge against Sweet Springs with a 6-RBI showing on 3 hits. Schad also tallied 3 hits and 5 RBI.
