Groundbreaking Scheduled For Year-Long East River Track Renovation Friday | The Lo-Down : News from the Lower East Side

East River Park Running Track. If you’re a regular user of the running track or soccer field at Sixth Street in East River Park, you’re out of luck for the next year. As you can see by these photos we snapped yesterday morning, the recreational area has been dug up for a lengthy renovation project. As EV Grieve noted in a recent story, a note on the gate reads, “East River Track Field will be closed on 9/18/2017 until further notice due to construction.” Tomorrow (Friday at 1 p.m.), Parks Department officials will attend a groundbreaking for the project. Hopefully, more details about the construction will be revealed.
