BILOXI, Miss. A single gunshot killed an infant who was with his father as the Louisiana man died in a barrage of gunfire after Mississippi police chased the man because he was suspected of killing the baby s mother and another person, a coroner said Wednesday.
An autopsy was conducted on La’Mello Parker, who was just over 3 months old. The coroner of Harrison County, Mississippi Brian Switzer told The Associated Press that Biloxi police investigators will compare the bullet to the weapons that were fired at the scene to try to determine the source of the fatal shot.

BILOXI, Mississipi (WALA) A 3-month-old child injured during a police chase and shootout in south Mississippi on Monday has died, according to the coroner in Harrison County.
Brian Switzer, from Harrison County Coroner, says the 3 month old baby died from a single gunshot wound.
He will turn over his findings to the Biloxi Police Department and Harrison DA’s Office to determine where the bullet came from.
The baby suffered injuries as his father, Eric Derell Smith, died of multiple gunshot wounds following a vehicle pursuit with authorities.
Smith was wanted in two killings in Louisiana.

A 3-month old died from one gunshot wound in the early hours of Tuesday morning after police in Mississippi got in a shootout with the baby s father, who is accused of double-murder and also died, Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer told FOX10 News.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff s office said that the baby s father, 30-year-old Eric Derell Smith, entered his ex-girlfriend s Louisiana home shortly before noon on Monday and shot and killed 32-year-old Christin Parker and her 26-year-old nephew, Brandon Parker. Eric Smith, 30, and his 3-month-old baby died during a shootout with police. Authorities say Smith entered his ex-girlfriend s home, where he killed her and her nephew before fleeing with the baby.
