Synopsis
Today’s counterpart is registration of deaths (issuance of death certificate), and medically certifying the cause of death. Every plague has, and every pandemic will, raise questions about the sanctity of both these numbers. Pandemics strain the system, and the latter may not have been perfect to start with.
Agencies
Estimates and media reports about Covid deaths in India make the point that actual numbers are several multiples of official figures. That there is underreporting is certainly true, something also validated by experiences of other countries.
Ramvir Singh Bidhuri
The Delhi government after “colluding with private health care facilities” has shut all Covid vaccination centres run by the MCDs, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Bidhuri alleged. The BJP on Wednesday accused the Delhi government of trying to paralyse the party-led municipal corporations in the city by using means such as stopping release of funds, reducing financial allocation or shutting Covid vaccination centres run by them. In a joint press conference Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi also alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi was crippling the civic bodies financially.
‘Delhi should follow Mumbai model’
Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress on Wednesday demanded that the Delhi government set up vaccination centres immediately for pregnant and lactating women, as the Central government had made changes in the guidelines on May 19 to include these two categories of women for inoculation.
Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress president Amrita Dhawan said that Mumbai has started vaccination centres for pregnant and lactating women without registration, and Delhi should do likewise to boost immunity of such women.
“With Delhi running short of vaccines, and CM Arvind [Kejriwal] making no earnest efforts to buy vaccines directly from the Indian/foreign companies on time, it is unlikely that these special category of women would get their vaccine shots any time soon, as there is a severe vaccine crunch now,” Ms. Dhawan said.
The new app has been made for all three city corporations, the SDMC said in a statement. In order to facilitate property taxpayers, South Delhi Municipal Corporation today launched a new mobile application. This application has been launched for property taxpayers of all three municipal corporations, it said. The motive behind launching of the application is to provide an easy, hassle-free platform for payers of property tax during the pandemic, the civic body said. Now, citizens can make payment while staying at home. The SDMC, the nodal agency for all three corporations (South, North & East) for this work, has developed the application with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC), it added.
