The 9,100-square-foot building is on a 2.56-acre lot that is accessible off N.W. Boulevard. An adjacent corner lot that holds the former JAMAR Market is not part of the development.
A board hearing was postponed until May on a second proposed store. That store, with 10,813 square feet, would go on a portion of a vacant 9.94-acre property on the northeastern corner of East Wheat and North Main roads.
The development also requires board approval of a linked subdivision, city Principal Engineer Ryan Headley said.
In other business, the board approved a second and final phase for a residential development on East Chestnut Avenue. Landis Properties LLC of Vineland owns the property, which abuts Washington, Jefferson, and Madison avenues.

A man awaiting trial for a 2019 murder in Mt. Sterling is currently back in jail. 40 year old John M. Dean was arrested by Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies Monday night for an undisclosed reason surrounding his ongoing murder trial. According to court documents, due to a previous agreement with former Brown County States Attorney Mark Vincent and Dean’s attorney John Leonard, all filings in the case are impounded from public viewing.
Dean plead not guilty to one charge of first degree murder in the death of 44 year old Rebeccaa Niewohner in February of last year. Since then, the trial has gone through a series of delays due to COVID-19, attorney availability, and motions for additional disclosures to the defense in the case. Current Brown County States Attorney Michael Hill told KHQA today that no new evidence has been brought forth in the case and that Dean is due in court on Friday.

On the anniversary of his death, the Springfield Police Department added the name of Officer Christopher Walsh on Tuesday to its memorial for officers killed in the line of duty.
Walsh, 32, became the first Springfield Police Department officer killed in action in 88 years last March when he was shot while trying to tend to a victim at the scene of a mass shooting at the Kum & Go store on East Chestnut Expressway.
Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams said Tuesday was a tragic day but also one that was necessary for healing.
A large crowd of officers and city officials showed up to support the family of Officer Walsh as the memorial was unveiled.
