When the world’s first retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) was launched in the Bahamas last year, it came with little fanfare. A simple tweet from the central bank announced the sand dollar was available to the general public.
The same cannot be said for the live pilot launch of DCash – the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union’s CBDC – which was announced on March 31 at a virtual event that featured speeches, live demos and a competition to win the new digital currency.
