A man unsuccessfully attempted to pass counterfeit $100 bills about 2 p.m. Wednesday at three Greeneville businesses, police Officer Burton Ellis said in a report.
He first went to Applebeeâs Grill & Bar on East Andrew Johnson Highway. An employee determined the bill to be counterfeit and told the man, who then fled.
The suspect then went to the nearby Waffle House restaurant and tried to pass a counterfeit bill there. An employee there recognized the bill as counterfeit and the man again fled, the report said.
The suspect continued on to GNC in the Greeneville Commons, where he attempted to pass a third counterfeit $100 hill.
On a day when Greene County led the region in the number of new COVID-19 cases and had two new deaths attributed to the virus, a local mask mandate was extended through Feb. 27.
Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison signed an extension of the mask mandate on Monday that is in effect until 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 27. Morrison issued the original executive order implementing the mask mandate in July, and it has been extended five times.
The mask mandate requires the wearing of an infection control mask or other quality cloth facial covering by all residents, visitors, employees and/or patrons of all Greene County businesses, industry, restaurants, retail stores, organizations and/or venues. Masks are to be worn in all environments, especially in public where there is general public activity such as shopping in which large groups may congregate and close, prolonged contact between persons is likely and social distancing cannot be maintained.
Adrian Rosales, of 114 Moonlight Court, Midway, was charged Saturday afternoon by Greeneville police with aggravated domestic assault. Police were called to a Young Circle address and saw the alleged victim and three children sitting in a car. Rosales was standing on a porch, Officer Larry Gilbert said in a report. The alleged victim told police that Rosales âhad strangled her and slammed her head against a bathroom mirror several times,â the report said. Rosales took the cellphone carried by the alleged victim, who ran next door for help. Rosales âchased her down and dragged her back into her apartment,â the report said. She was eventually able to get away from him and call for help. The alleged victim had bruises on her neck and marks on her hands and arms. A records check showed that Rosales also had an active arrest warrant for violation of probation. Rosales was held without bond pending a first scheduled appearance Monday in court.
