ISLAMABAD: Herd immunity , also known as population immunity , is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection. On Monday, the Spanish prime minister said Spain is “just 100 days away from reaching herd immunity” to COVID-19, while the UK vaccine taskforce said that they would achieve it by August.
Vaccines train our immune systems to create proteins that fight disease, known as ‘antibodies’, just as would happen when we are exposed to a disease but – crucially – vaccines work without making us sick. Vaccinated people are protected from getting the disease in question and passing on the pathogen, breaking any chains of transmission.

NICOLA Sturgeon has told Andrew Marr she “wouldn’t rule out” bringing forward a referendum by spring next year. It comes as the outgoing head of the vaccine task force has said that by August this year there will be no Covid-19 circulating in the UK. The First Minister has said that she would only hold a constitutional vote once the Covid pandemic has passed. Clive Dix, vaccine task force chief, told the Telegraph that the country is on track to vaccinate all adults by the end of July. Asked by Marr if Scotland would hold a referendum by spring next year, based on predictions, that the pandemic was over, Sturgeon said: “That would certainly work for timescale of within the first half of the parliamentary term.

A second independence referendum should not be staged until the huge public services backlog created by the pandemic is cleared, Michael Gove has said, in a clear signal the UK Government will seek to delay another separation vote for years.
The Cabinet Office Minister said Scotland and the UK s recovery from Covid-19 would not be completed until NHS waiting lists – which surged when many services and procedures were suspended last year – were driven back down again.
