COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County Jail inmate has been charged with backing up a toilet and flooding several jail cells on Christmas Eve.
35-year-old Bradley Earl Burd of Homer has been charged with Malicious Destruction of a Building between $1,000 and $20,000.
According to Branch County court documents, Burd is accused of flushing a jail issued bed sheet which led to the flooding of multiple cells.
Four of the cells had to be evacuated and an emergency call had to be made to Roto Rooter.
Plumbing specialists removed a bed sheet and several towels from the pipes. Maintenance staff had to be called in after hours to clean up the flooding.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson man has been charged in connection with an alleged rolling domestic dispute last August.
20-year-old Gary Wayne Boyd III was booked at the Branch County Jail last Friday following a Michigan State Police investigation and later released on a $15,000 bond.
He has been charged with assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, unlawful imprisonment and domestic violence second offense.
According to court documents, Boyd allegedly punched and strangled a female acquaintance during an argument while they were in a vehicle on August 23, 2020.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man is looking at life behind prison bars after he was charged with two counts of child abuse on Friday in connection with injuries sustained by a one year old child last fall.
Branch County Prosecutor Attorney Zach Stempien has charged 26-year-old Nicholas Platek with First Degree Child Abuse which carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. Platek has also been charged with Second Degree Child Abuse which has a maximum prison sentence of 10-years.
Prosecutors have also accused Platek of being an habitual offender which could double his prison time. Platek was convicted in 2017 of third degree child abuse and for being in possession of a controlled substance less than 25 grams
18-year-old Michael Leeroy Miller was arrested following a Bronson Police Department investigation.
Branch County Prosecutors have charged him with first and second criminal sexual conduct.
According to court documents, Miller is accused of threatening the alleged 12-year-old female victim with a knife at the time of the incident.
Bond has been set at $100,000. A probable cause hearing has been scheduled for next Thursday with a District Court preliminary exam set for January 20.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was arraigned on Thursday afternoon in Branch County District Court on ten charges involving child sex crimes.
68-year-old Dennis Roger Watson was booked at the Branch County Jail on a warrant late Wednesday afternoon following a Michigan State Police investigation into the alleged crimes which according to court documents go back to 2015.
Branch County Prosecutors filed five counts of second degree criminal sexual conduct against Watson along with three first degree C.S.C. counts.
Watson is also facing charges of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer in the commission of a crime.
