There were a series of drive-by shootings in the south Auckland suburb of Ōtara in November 2020. “Evidence was located which confirmed a firearm had been discharged near the property,” a police spokeswoman said. Enquiries are ongoing. The incident comes six months after a spate of drive-by shootings in the south Auckland suburb of Ōtara, where there were six shootings in 29 hours.
Neighbours were left terrified after the incidents, but tensions eased after an agreement was reached between rival gangs and several arrests were made. Since then, a dairy owner was shot in the leg in Manurewa in January, a person suffered serious injuries after a firearms incident in Papatoetoe in January, and a man was shot by police during a firearms incident, also in Papatoetoe, in February.

A religious scholar said she was flabbergasted animal sacrifices were happening in any type of Hindu ceremony locally when the practice was dying out globally.
