CLEVELAND An Ohio man pleaded guilty this week to plotting a hate crime and planning an attack on a Toledo-area synagogue, the Department of Justice announced.
Damon Joseph, aka Abdullah Ali Yusuf, 23, from Holland, pleaded guilty to providing material support for ISIS and plotting attacks in Ohio. He will be sentenced Sept. 14 and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. This investigation highlights the continued threat of violence to our communities posed by ISIS-inspired terrorists – in this case, at a place of worship. With today s plea, we will be one step closer to seeing justice served, said Acting Assistant Director Patrick Reddan, Jr. of the FBI s Counterterrorism Division.
Protecting the Country’s Critical Infrastructure Through Partnerships
In 1996, a small group of private sector and government officials began working with the FBI s Cleveland Field Office to help identify cyber threats to the country. The FBI passed along what we knew about cyber intrusions and crime trends to our partners to help them secure their facilities and computer networks. And our partners, in turn, shared their information technology expertise and information they had on possible cyber crimes.
The group became known as InfraGard because of its focus on protecting critical infrastructure components like utility companies, transportation systems, telecommunication networks, water and food suppliers, public health, and financial services.

A Michigan man was arrested Wednesday after arriving at an Ohio nuclear power plant and allegedly making false claims to have explosives in his trailer, prompting a heavy law enforcement response from the FBI, several bomb squads and other local agencies.
Michael D. Fogelsong, 33, of Adrian, Michigan, has been booked into Lake County Jail on charges of making false alarms, a third-degree felony, and aggravated trespass, a first-degree misdemeanor, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release published Thursday. Additional charges may be added.
Assistant Director, Criminal Justice Information Services Division
Michael A. Christman was named assistant director of the Criminal Justice Information Services Division in West Virginia in March 2021. The CJIS Division provides state-of-the-art tools and services to law enforcement, national security and intelligence community partners, and the public. Mr. Christman had most recently served as the special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh Field Office.
Mr. Christman joined the FBI as a special agent in February 1992. He served on the Safe Streets Task Force in Salt Lake City, targeting violent gangs and Mexican drug-trafficking organizations. He also investigated violent crime and other criminal matters. Mr. Christman transferred to the Cleveland Field Office in 1997 and worked drug and terrorism cases.
