Three things to know about Hospice Cleveland County Foundation With that in mind, Hospice Cleveland County Foundation was born.  A new board of directors was assembled, office space obtained and the executive director starts next week.  “The new foundation offers a wonderful opportunity to grow the work of Hospice in our community,” said J.T. Scruggs, board chairman and leader of the new foundation’s formation committee. “Cleveland County folks have always been generous, and their generosity will now find new ways to benefit the people and places they care so much about.”  Here are three things to know about the new foundation: 

Gunsmithing course coming to CCC

The college will offer its first ever gunsmithing course starting in January.   The trade of repairing, modifying or building guns, gunsmithing gaining popularity from entrepreneurs and hobbyists alike. The average age of gunsmiths working in the industry is increasing, creating a demand for newer, younger smiths to enter the field.   “This is a program we would like to develop, depending on interest in the area,” said Bruce Mack, vice president of economic and workforce development at CCC.  At Cleveland Community College, the gunsmithing course will focus on safely handling and disassembling weapons as well as machining parts to repair broken components. 

Friends of Officer Tyler Herndon describe his best qualities

Chase Hullender doesn’t recall a defining moment when meeting Tyler Herndon. For as long as he can remember, Herndon was his best friend. “We grew up in church together. We went to the same elementary school, intermediate school, middle school and high school. Tyler was probably the one constant in my life,” Hullender said. Herndon, a Kings Mountain native who most recently lived in Belmont, grew up going to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where Herndon will be buried in the church cemetery Tuesday. Herndon, Hullender, Jeremiah Early, C.J. Warren and several of Herndon’s other closest friends played soccer together at Kings Mountain High School. During those years, Herndon and Hullender attended First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where Herndon’s funeral will be held Tuesday.
