Garthamlock Post Office closure delayed

Garthamlock Post Office Local representatives have welcomed a u-turn on the closure of a vital post office. The Glasgow Times reported last month that Garthamlock Post Office was set to close on Saturday February 13. However, the current operators have decided to delay the closure indefinitely. Councillor Ruairi Kelly for Glasgow North East said: “I welcome the decision by the operator to delay the closure of this service and hope that it leads to the long term security of the Post Office in Garthamlock. This is clearly not the right time to be altering this service given that we are being asked not to make unnecessary journeys and the ability to carry out as many activities locally is an important factor in keeping us all safe during this pandemic.”

Labour unveils its Glasgow list rankings for Holyrood election

Labour unveils its Glasgow list rankings for Holyrood election The Labour Party has ranked its candidates for Glasgow list at this May’s Scottish Parliament election. Pauline McNeill tops the list after leadership contender Anas Sarwar, who topped the vote among members, stepped aside to ensure a woman was at the top of the city region list. Mr Sarwar moves to second on the list. He is followed by Paul Sweeney, former Glasgow North East MP in third and Pam Duncan Glancy, a former Glasgow North Candidate in fourth. It puts current MSP James Kelly further down the list and at risk of losing his seat.

Joanna Cherry sacked from SNP front bench in Westminster

JOANNA Cherry, the high-profile SNP MP and QC, has been sacked from the party s front bench as part of a Westminster reshuffle.  Ms Cherry, who represents Edinburgh South West, was removed as the party s shadow justice and home affairs spokeswoman. She broke the news on Twitter, writing:  Despite hard work, results & a strong reputation I’ve been sacked today from @theSNP front bench.  My constituents & fellow party members who gave me a resounding mandate in recent NEC [the SNP s national executive committee] elections should rest assured that I will continue to work hard for them. Westminster is increasingly irrelevant to Scotland s constitutional future and @theSNP would do well to radically re-think our strategy.
