Donald Trump won the state back in November with 55 percent of the vote. Author: WLTX, Associated Press Updated: 12:08 PM EST December 14, 2020
COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina’s electors have cast their nine ballots for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
The electors are met Monday morning at the State House in Columbia. The Electoral College in other states are meeting as well to cast their votes as required by the U.S. Constitution.
The electors, spaced apart and wearing masks due to COVID-19 protocols, cast their ballots first for Mike Pence and then for Donald Trump. There was then a voice vote to affirm their choice.
All nine of South Carolina’s electoral votes are expected to go to President Trump. Those who deviate could face legal action.
“They’re excited. We’re not expecting any problems. They’re looking forward to officially casting their electoral vote for President Trump and I’d say they’re more excited about it than they were on November 3,” Robinson said.
Once voting is completed across the country, President-Elect Joe Biden is expected to receive 306 electoral votes to the President’s 232. Only 270 are needed to elect the president.
Once the electoral votes are cast, they’ll be sent to Congress to be finalized on January 6.
