Newcomer Austin Butler is starring in the biopic as Presley with Maggie Gyllenhaal cast as Gladys Presley, the singer s mother. Tom Hanks stars as Col. Tom Parker, the manager who controlled every aspect of Presley s life.
The movie is described as focusing on Presley s rise to stardom, with a particular focus on the star s relationship with Parker.
Luhrmann is producing the feature with his wife, Catherine Martin. He wrote the script with Craig Pearce, with whom he also wrote
The Great Gatsby and
Moulin Rouge!
Production of the untitled biopic was suspended last summer after Hanks positive test for the novel coronavirus.

Joey continued: “They got to the hospital and what Daddy said was Elvis didn’t bother to put [the car] in park. He just jumped out and Daddy said he slid over and had to put it in park.
“He was a little bit behind Elvis and when he got up there, Gladys had already passed away I believe.
“Elvis went back there and kissed his mother. I think he patted her on the stomach or something like that.”
Understandably Elvis was totally devastated, especially as he had such a close relationship with his mother into adulthood.
The 29-year-old Butler most recently played Tex Watson in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
The American actor and singer was spotted over the last couple of years with jet black hair in a similar shape to Elvis’ hair, ready for the role.
He famously beat the likes of Harry Styles, Miles Teller, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ansel Elgort to the role, after they all tested for playing The King.
Meanwhile, Hanks has shaved his head bald to play Elvis’ manager The Colonel.

During an interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hanks shared how he had a meal with Elvis’ ex-wife Priscilla Presley who defended The Colonel’s reputation.
Sally added: “It was on her gravestone and he visited her grave at the cemetery often.
“That myth plays into the idea that he was so sad and so depressed 20 years after her death that that contributed some how to his demise. I completely disagree with that.”
The author reiterated: “One of the goals of this book is to restore Elvis’ humanity. That is the No 1 goal.
“It’s not a science book, it’s not a medical book. It’s really more about Elvis’ life than it is his death. It is about how he lived with these ailments and how they impacted his life up until August 16, 1977.”

The Presley family moved to Memphis, Tenn., in 1948.
Elvis began his career in 1954 and according to www.graceland.com, and was an “international sensation” by 1956.
On May 1, 1967, he married Priscilla Beaulieu. They had a daughter, Lisa Marie, on Feb. 1, 1968. Priscilla and Elvis divorced in 1973.
Elvis died Aug. 16, 1977, at his home, Graceland, at the age of 42.
According to biography.com, medics found Elvis on the bathroom floor in his pajamas.
