Desi Nicodemus: Kathy Wai, Mitzi Bauer and Tory McVay deserve support to retain seats on board
I urge members of our North Clackamas community to vote for Kathy Wai, Mitzi Bauer and Tory McVay this May in the school board election.
I view the upcoming election for North Clackamas School Board from several perspectives. I am a teacher in the North Clackamas School District with 22 years of experience in the classroom, an elected official in Milwaukie who often works closely with the board and parent to a child attending North Clackamas schools. The leadership of the NCSD School Board has an effect on my work, my home and the community I am so proud to represent.

School officials running for reelection face campaigns supported by former state representative
Two of the most important figures in the future of the North Clackamas School Board are not on the May 18 ballot.
North Clackamas School Board Chair Libra Forde and former State Rep. Patrick Sheehan, R-Happy Valley, were on opposite sides of the 2019 naming of the district s new high school after Adrienne C. Nelson, the first Black woman to become an Oregon Supreme Court justice. Forde and Sheehan are now associated with two opposing slates of candidates vying for three spots on the school board.

Ledding Library and Milwaukie History Society have partnered on a 6:30 p.m. program set for Wednesday, Feb. 3, titled Celebrating Black Excellence.
Greg Frank Hemer of the Historical Society said organizers decided to change the title of their annual Black History Month program to Celebrating Black Excellence in an effort to tie together historical trends and increase the impact of our shared history. History should enhance all in a timeline, and calling out a designated month segregates our history, Hemer said.
