Fresh on the back of very impressive wins over Meath and Kerry, Offaly head to Carlow next Sunday and a win here will put them on the threshold of promotion. With the top team in the division going up to Division 1B, Offaly now have their fate very much in their own hands. While it is not a surprise that they should challenge for promotion, Offaly s form in their opening two games has come as a welcome boost.

Ten Offaly players attend GPA’s virtual 2021 Rookie Camp Reporter: );   ); Ten players from Offaly were among 303 players new inter-county panel members who logged on to the GPA’s 2021 Rookie Camp which was held remotely across three evenings last week.  The camp, which is in its third year, is aimed at helping young players to adapt to life on a senior panel and also at showcasing the supports they have at their disposal through the GPA. The ten Offaly players were Amy Byrne, Louise Mannion, Sharon Shanahan and Mairéad Teehan (Camogie), Killian Sampson (Hurling) and Rory Egan, Jack Bryant, Cathal Donohue, Bill Carroll and Nicole Farrelly (Football) were all involved.

The Birr man was in Newry after watching his son Eoghan playing a starring role as Offaly beat Derry in the Christy Ring Cup when he got a phone call informing him that his brother, Adrian had died suddenly in Lanzarotte. Eoghan Cahill had shot the lights out that day, scoring seventeen points with four of them from play and as Gary stated this week, “It was a very long journey home”, after getting the news that everyone dreads.
