The High Court has granted former Fianna Fail TD for Kildare North and Leitrim native, Frank O’Rourke permission to add persons unknown to defamations proceedings he has brought over social media posts made in the run up to last year s general election.
Mr O Rourke has obtained orders, known as Norwich Pharmacal orders, in separate actions against Twitter International Company and Facebook Ireland Ltd requiring so he can identify the posters so he can sue them for defamation.
Declan Doyle SC for Mr O Rourke told Ms Justice Leonie Reynolds on today (Thursday) that his client is still trying to identify the person who posted the alleged defamatory post on a Facebook page.
Durkan (75) intends to run again at next general election

Kildare North TD Bernard Durkan has confirmed he intends to stand at the next general election which will make him one the oldest candidates to go before voters.
Mr Durkan, who will turn 76 in March, will be 80 years old if the government runs its full five-year term.
He said: “Yes, I intend to stand.”
The Mayo native was first elected at the 1981 general election almost 40 years ago.
He later lost his seat in February 1982 but was re-elected in November 1982 and at every general election since then with an unbroken record of service.

A “commercially sensitive” issue involving NAMA is thought to be holding up progress on three planned new schools for Celbridge, a Kildare County Council meeting has been told.
At the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District meeting on January 22, Cllrs Ciara Galvin and Nuala Killeen asked council officials to outline specific reasons for the delay in progressing the three schools campus in Celbridge and work to accelerate the outstanding issues with all stakeholders.
They and other councillors are concerned about delays and the councillors agreed to contact both NAMA and the Department of Education about meeting them as well as meeting representatives from the planned schools, St. Raphael s Special School, Celbridge Community School and St. Patrick s National School.
