Worcester Trades Council calls for lasting peace between Palestine and Israel

CAMPAIGN: Members of the union protesting for a peaceful resolution on Saturday (May 22) A TRADES union from Worcester has appealed to the UK government to take action against the violence in the middle east amidst announcements of a ceasefire from the Israeli government. Worcester Trades Union Council (WTUC) has called for “a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel” and is asking the UK government to use it’s resources to put a stop against any excessive use of violence between the two countries. A statement from the union said: “Whilst the ceasefire provides some respite from the recent violence, WTUC recognises the need for a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel, one that is consistent with international law and respects equality and human rights. WTUC calls on the UK government to use all means available to stop the escalation of violence against Palestinians”.

Becket: Summer salads on church menu

First Congregational Church is accepting reservations for a takeout Memorial Day weekend summer salads dinner. Pickup will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at the Guild Hall on YMCA Road.  The menu includes turkey salad with cranberries, potato salad with egg, four-bean salad, and homemade pineapple upside-down cake. Cost is $12 for adults and $6 for kids under 12. Proceeds will be used to repair the belfry and floor timbers damaged by powderpost beetles. Reservations are required by calling 413-623-8300; leave a message with the number of meals.
