One person airlifted, another sent to hospital after three-vehicle crash in Brownville

BROWNVILLE — One person was flown to a Syracuse hospital and another was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown on Wednesday after a three-vehicle crash shut down Route 12E. The Brownville Fire Department was dispatched to 14335 Route 12E at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for the crash. Chief Ryan McIntosh said crews found two pickup trucks severely damaged in the middle of the road, as well as a dump truck towing what appeared to be a small backhoe in the ditch. Firefighters and crews from Guilfoyle Ambulance Services converged on the scene and began assisting patients in the vehicles, the chief said. There were two people in one pickup truck, one in the other pickup truck and one in the dump truck.

Hickey announces run for Watertown City Council

WATERTOWN — Patrick J. Hickey announced Monday that he is seeking election to a two-year term on the Watertown City Council. In a press release, Mr. Hickey, a lifelong resident of Watertown, having been born, raised and educated in the city, said he’s running for election because he’s “committed to a better community.” He’s been active in the community for decades, most recently reestablishing the city-wide Neighborhood Watch program and creating a city pool fund to raise money to offset the expenses of the city summer pool program. This year, he applied for the interim council seat that became vacant with the resignation of former Councilman Jesse C.P. Roshia. He was not granted an interview with the current council.

Watertown City Council will meet Monday night to discuss EMS issue

Compromise saves Watertown firefighter medical calls, at least for now

WATERTOWN — In a compromise offered by the mayor, the Fire Department’s rescue truck will be taken off the road next Monday, but firefighters will still be able to respond to EMS calls until the city discusses the issue again in January. Mayor Jeffrey M. Smith said Monday night the compromise will give the city a chance to meet with Guilfoyle Ambulance Services, Jefferson County EMS and the firefighters’ union. But he put it on the firefighters’ union to save the medical calls, saying “compromise is a two-way street.” He planned to offer a resolution to decommission the rescue truck and eliminate all EMS calls by firefighters.
