Purser reelected, Mills joins Killeen ISD school board

PLACE 6 Newly elected Place 6 board member Cullen Mills, 37, of Killeen, will effectively replace retired longtime board member Minerva Trujillo, after he solidified his win Saturday night. Mills beat opponent Riakos “Rock” Adams by 425 votes. Mills, a 2002 Harker Heights High School graduate, is the husband of KISD employee, parent educator, Erin Mills, and owner of family business Modern Appliance in Killeen. Mills graduated from University of North Texas with a degree in business administration. Mills will join the other six board members at the upcoming May 11th board meeting. A total of 2,018 voters cast their ballots in favor of Mills, while 1,593 voted for his opponent Riakos Adams.

Several vaccine sites available despite Killeen hospital ending them

Earlier this week, AdventHealth-Central Texas announced that it would stop taking new coronavirus vaccine appointments after Friday. Despite this news, there are plenty of options for those who want one. Bell County has partnered with Curative to host large-scale vaccination sites beginning next week. Curative has conducted several large-scale testing clinics. James Stafford, the county’s spokesman, said that one of the large-scale sites in Killeen will begin next week at Leo Buckley Stadium on the campus of Killeen High School. The county will release more information in the coming days about how often the large-scale vaccine sites will operate and how to schedule an appointment.

Temple ISD, other Bell districts plan in-person graduation ceremonies

School districts in Bell County are making plans for in-person graduation ceremonies — festivities that largely span the Bell County Expo Center, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and other venues. Temple Independent School District spokesman Christian Hernandez told the Telegram that Temple High seniors will don their cap and gowns on May 12 at the Bell County Expo Center, 301 W. Loop 121 in Belton. The in-person graduation is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. “Each graduate will receive six tickets to distribute to friends or family, and all are required to wear masks,” Hernandez said. Killeen ISD Killeen ISD has five senior bodies graduating in late May: Early College High, 2 p.m. on May 27; Killeen High, 6 p.m. on May 27; C.E. Ellison High, 9 a.m. on May 28; Harker Heights High, 2 p.m. on May 28; and Robert M. Shoemaker High, 9 a.m. on May 29.
