Christians celebrate Christmas amid tight security, SOPs

Islamabad/Rawalpindi : The Christian community in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad celebrated Christmas with traditional zeal, fervour, and enthusiasm amid tight security and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the local administration due to coronavirus pandemic.
According to the Islamabad district administration, the security audit of the churches was conducted prior to the celebrations that helped identify shortages and other factors including the number of officials stationed at the location, walkthrough gates, CCTV cameras, patrolling around churches, and pickets.
The special teams headed by the assistant commissioners paid visits to churches in the last couple of days and interacted with the organizers to improve security measures.
PESHAWAR: The Christian community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa celebrated Christmas with religious zeal on Friday amid tight security.
In Peshawar, the Christmas congregations were held in 30 churches where tight security arrangements were made for the occasion. Contingents of police were deployed in and around the worship places and participants were allowed after proper identification by the volunteers in order to thwart any untoward incident.
Big congregations were held in the main churches, including All Saints Church Kohati, Saint John’s Cathedral and St Michael’s Catholic Church in Saddar. The Christmas prayers were also offered in churches located at Swato Phattak, Sufaid Dheri, Peshtakhara, Christian Colony, Zargarabad, Yakatoot, Academy Town and Tehkal and Gulbahar areas.

FAISALABAD: As many as 676 shopping malls, cafes, restaurants, hotels, marriage halls and transports have been sealed during the last week under corona S OPs.
The crackdown was being carried out by the assistant commissioners on the violations of corona SOPs on the order of the Punjab government. The administration also got cases registered against 17 persons and imposed more than Rs 500,000 fine on them.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali said that 254 shopping malls, 357 restaurants, cafés/hotels, 39 wedding halls and 26 transports had been sealed for corona SOPs violation. The DC said that the district administration would ensure implementation on corona SOPs at all cost.
