Review: Wild Heart - Urban Rescue

Reviewed by Tony Cummings Those revivalists from Northern Ireland Rend Collective started a boutique label with Sparrow last year and the first act signed were Urban Rescue. These guys from San Diego play electro-tinged pop rock and indeed Never Stop is an eminently danceable groove declares that there is no place the band would rather be than communing with God (a lyrical theme that reminded me of a pop dance gem of another era, V enna s Where I Wanna Be ). Another truly outstanding cut here is the finale Up From The Ashes which over ricocheting percussion incorporates into its anthemic sweep a passage which is either a poem or an extemporised prayer from one Michael Nelder. There are two snags with this uplifting album - one is that there is a bit at the end of Alive In You which is a ringer for the melody of Oceans (Where Feet May Fail) ; the other is that there are a tad too many gang vocals singing the hooks and bv parts for comfort. Overall, this team, who after years

Review: Here I Am To Worship - Tim Hughes

Reviewed by Giles D Morrison A featured artist on both CR CDs 17 and 18 with Maker Of All Things and Day After Day Tim Hughes has had substantial recent exposure to CR readers and has touched many with his tremendous work at Soul Survivor. Now this superbly produced studio album is getting much play on Cross Rhythms radio. Hailing from the same church as Matt Redman, this solo album elevates another songwriter/worship leader to the premier league. Varying from power balllads to acoustic guitar tracks, infectious melodies and rhythms draw the listener into worship. Production by former members of Sonicflood has given this album a great sound that must be heard. Tim s heart for worship is demonstrated in every song and are tipped by Survivor Records as soon to become classics , these songs represent a significant new development in worship songwriting in this country.

Nathan Sheridan: A Nashville-based singer songwriter with a tale to tell

Nathan Sheridan: A Nashville-based singer songwriter with a tale to tell Monday 18th January 2021 Nathan Sheridan Nathan Sheridan emerged into the CCM bright lights in 2018 with his powerful debut album Broken With You . Cross Rhythms radio subsequently picked up on Nathan s Starts With You And Me which has a particularly appropriate message in the troubled times through which we re passing. I spoke to the young songsmith to find out more about his life and music. Tony: I m reading a bit of your biography and you ve had, shall we say, an interesting life. In your childhood you lived in a dilapidated trailer park in Pensacola and your mum was addicted to

Review: Alisa Turner (Integrity) - Alisa Turner

Reviewed by Tony Cummings I can t resist quoting from a review which you ll find on the Hallels website: Alisa Turner has a voice that pulverises. With a striking clarity of a Jenn Johnson, a worshipping lilt of a Darlene Zschech and an undergirding Holy Spirit power of Kim Walker-Smith, Turner makes you stop and worship when she sings. Alisa is no mean songwriter either. The opener Lift My Eyes built on the words of Psalm 121 is a gem and will surely get radio play. Almost as good is Not Even Now as she sings of God s sovereignty in the face of suffering. And suffering this most effecting of singer/songwriters knows much about. Alisa has battled with Lyme disease since childhood while the unexpected death of her worship pastor father and the loss of an infant son only minutes after his birth would have pulled apart any but the strongest believers. But Alisa s faith is conveyed in abundance in these rich, melodic songs. Production-wise this EP is a bit disappointing. Despite D
