He urges heads of families to ensure everyone, especially their children and women find peace and harmony this festive season. “There is no greater calling from the VCC to all families in Vanuatu than to urge heads of families and men in both towns of Port Vila and Santo and in all villages of Vanuatu to refrain from worldly celebrations and return to the true God of our fathers and celebrate in peace, in unity and harmony,” is the message from the VCC SG.

Boone Receives SOR Distinguished Alumnus Of The Year Award Wednesday, December 16, 2020 - by Merritt Jenkins, Lee University Dr. Jerome Boone Dr. Jerome Boone received the School of Religion Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award during Lee University’s virtual Homecoming celebrations. “Few individuals in higher Christian education have the ability to do administration and teaching well,” said Dr. Terry Cross, dean of the School of Religion. “Dr. Boone is one of those rare individuals who has spent his entire career doing both tasks exceptionally well. The School of Religion faculty voted to honor their colleague as an alumnus who has contributed so much to the Kingdom of God throughout the world, but especially in training men and women to ‘help others know God truly and faithfully’ here at Lee.”

Loaves & Fishes During the coronavirus pandemic, Loaves & Fishes delivers food to homebound clients. The organization needs volunteer delivery drivers and food packagers. Under regular circumstances, the holidays are tough financially for many families. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has only made things worse as many families across our region face evictions, lost wages, temporary or permanent job loss, and more. According to 2-1-1 services data in North Carolina, from Nov. 10 to Dec. 10 requests for rental assistance have increased 64% over the same timeframe last year. Food pantry assistance has been requested 28% more and requests for utilities have increased 72%. People were already struggling before the pandemic, said Kathryn Firmin-Sellers, the chief impact officer of United Way of Central Carolinas. There were already housing cost burdens, meaning they were spending 30 or 50% or more of their income on rent and housing costs. The pandemic has just exacerbated that. T
