Celebrated by over two billion people across the world, Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, a fact reflected even in translation: Naththal in Sinhala and Kristumas in Tamil. While most of its symbols were later cultural borrowings, its essence survives through the life story of Christ as related in the New Testament, in particular the four Gospels, two of which directly refer to Christ’s birth or Nativity: Matthew and Luke. The exact biographical details come to us from second-hand accounts, as with other religious leaders from that period, but what all these narratives tell us is the story of a poor carpenter’s son, preaching salvation and earning the ire and retribution of the government of Roman Judea.

The Orangeville Lions Club held its 2
nd Annual Christmas Food Drive outside Metro over the weekend, generating 1,700 lbs of food and $2,700 in cash donations for the local Food Bank.
All of the cash donations will be used to purchase fresh produce to go into special baskets that are being prepared for users of the Orangeville Food Bank in time for Christmas.
“Over the five hours we had probably about 20 of our Lions there. Some at the front door greeting the folks as they came in and the rest at the back door,” said Mike Walker, Lions Club Vice President.

Wow. What an amazing and crazy year that we have all had in 2020, with so many events cancelled or postponed.
The good news is that Christmas has not been cancelled for 2020.
We will still celebrate the great news that Jesus Christ came to bring peace on earth, and goodwill for all people.
Many have struggled with fear, worry and anxiety this year due to financial and health challenges.
Dominion Television presents ‘The Joy Experience: The 9 Lessons of Christmas’, a live musical dance drama to usher in the Christmas holiday season, delivering messages of divine hope, redemption, and remembrance of the essence of the Christmas season.
The stage performances will take place 18-20 December, 2020 at Action Chapel International, Spintex Road with show times at 8pm on the 18th and 19th December, and at 7 pm on the 20th December.
The Joy Experience: The 9 Lessons of Christmas is an adaptation of the traditional Night of 9 Lessons and Carols Service directed by acclaimed Hollywood director, Raquis D. Petree, performed through dance choreographed and set to a musical score of Christmas carols infused with traditional and contemporary African rhythms and styles.
