“After that, I heard boys using the wrong language. That motivated me to do something . it didn t sit right with me,” he said. In his four-minute speech, Knight told the boys he wanted to talk to them “about what it means to be a man”.

Carlos Knight, 17, says he felt compelled to speak out after witnessing homophobic and sexist comments at school. “During my time at Boys High I have experienced boys behaving in a rude, so-called manly manner to towards young women, gay, lesbian, bisexual or just different people,” Knight said. “We think it’s cool to make jokes about a boy, just because he may be gay. We think it s manly to catcall girls at bus stops and we think we have the right to body-shame girls or judge them just off their appearance – we don’t.”

Actor and comedian David McPhail dies aged 76
Actor and comedian David McPhail has died at the age of 76.
McPhail, one half of the legendary duo McPhail and Gadsby, died in Christchurch overnight. He had been living at the Merivale Retirement Village.
McPhail s son Matt posted on Facebook this morning: It is with the deepest sadness that I share with you the news that our wonderful husband, father and grandfather David McPhail died in his sleep last night. He leaves a great big hole in our lives but not in our hearts. A truly beautiful man.
Schools that operate an enrolment scheme could offer excess places to out-of-zone students, with priority given to children who had been accepted into a special programme, then to the siblings of current students. Third and fourth priority was given to the children of former siblings and the children of former students. But one ministry proposal would scrap the parental priority, and elevate the children of board members and a school s employees to priority three. The changes were proposed after a 2019 investigation found “systemic inequities in educational outcomes in New Zealand”. The taskforce concluded that “improving equity of access to schooling” was important to reducing this.
