BATTLE CREEK, MI A Michigan State Police trooper who incurred severe injuries after being involved in a head-on crash has been identified as Christopher Haywood.
Haywood was headed west on West Columbia Avenue, near Stevens Road in Battle Creek, at approximately 10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 17, when a black Toyota Camry crossed the centerline and hit the patrol car head-on, according to an updated news release from Michigan State Police.

BATTLE CREEK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) Michigan State Police troopers are investigating a two-vehicle crash involving a MSP patrol vehicle and a black Toyota Camry, according to MSP Lt. Duwayne Robinson.
The crash happened on West Columbia Avenue near Stevens Road in Battle Creek at about 10:00 p.m. Sunday,
Trooper Christopher Haywood had been driving westbound on West Columbia Avenue when a Toyota Camry, with a 32-year-old Kalamazoo man at the wheel, crossed the centerline hitting Haywood’s patrol vehicle head on.
Trooper Haywood and the two occupants of the Camry suffered severe, but non-life-threatening injuries. All three went by ambulance to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.
