CBP officers halt cash smuggling attempt

A man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle more than $12,000 out of the country, according to an arrest affidavit filed on Dec. 30.
The case occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Dec. 28, when U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers conducting outbound operations at the Juarez-Lincoln International Bridge inspected a black Dodge 3500 displaying Texas license plates.
CBP officers identified the driver as Natali Oliveros and Christopher Perez as the passenger, both U.S. citizens. Both provided a negative declaration for weapons, ammo and more than $10,000 in cash.
Oliveros stated he was traveling from Houston to Mexico. He was then referred to secondary inspection. During secondary inspection, CBP officers discovered a Winchester SXP 12-gauge shotgun.

INDUSTRY (CNS) - A man shot to death in Bassett Park in the unincorporated West Valinda area near Industry was a resident of Baldwin Park, authorities said today.
Christopher Perez was 23-years-old, according to the coroner s office.
Deputies responded at 11:20 p.m. Friday to a call of gunshots heard in the park, located in the 500 block of North Vineland Avenue, where they found the victim, who had sustained several gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff s Department.
A motive for the shooting or description of the shooter were not available.
